Theodore J. “Ted” O’Connor , Retired Sergeant Chicago Police Department, passed away on his 83rd birthday January 30, 2024 in Florida. Loving and devoted husband of Maureen (née Healy) for 56 years. Beloved son of the late John and Delia (née Kerrigan) O’Connor. Dear brother of the late John O’Connor, Jr. (the late Rose Marie Mulvaney). Fond cousin of John and Mary Ann Byrne and many Kerrigans in Ireland. Much loved brother-in-law of Michael and Dottie Healy, Peggy and the late Brian Dosch, the late Patrick Healy, Brian and Katleya Healy, Don and the late Mary Bartecki. Loving uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Proud veteran of the US Army Illinois National Guard. Loved every moment of his 29 year career (1966-1995) on the CPD: Patrol, Task Force, Homicide, DEA Task Force, FBI Task Force, and Crime Analysis Unit. Member of Chicago Police Sergeants’ Association and Fraternal Order of Police.
Ted’s passion for sailing led to a delightful retirement in San Diego where his sailboat Carpe Vitam was moored, bringing a new wide circle of friends into his and Maureen’s life. Leisure time was enriched with his new hobby of watercolor and acrylic painting. All who knew him admired his intelligence and dry wit and loved his storytelling talent, modern “shanachie.”

May God bless my cousin, Teddy O’Connor, and his lovely wife, Maureen, all ways, always.
New Ted for many years. We were neighbors back in Jeffery Manor. His father and my father were best friends. MayGod smile on him.
Maureen, wherever your Ted showed up became a bit brighter and more lively. He was so admired, respected, appreciated and beloved by all who worked with him. Our lives have one less shanachie and we grieve the empty spot. Peace to your house now.
Heartfelt and prayerful condolences from the Chicago Police Chaplains. Ted will be remembered at the next Police Mass.
In the meantime, may family and friends know the healing touch of our all-loving, all-merciful God! [Police Chaplains Ministry: http://www.ChicagoPCM.org or 312/738-7588]
Maureen our condolences to you and your family.
