LeRoy M. Tolman, 84, of Indian Head Park. Beloved husband of Vernadene. Loving step-father of Cris (Bruce) Gondry and the late Michael Westerfield. Mr. Tolman retired in 1998 from Replogle Globes, Inc. of Broadview with 44 years of service. It was his responsibility to edit the earth based mostly on de facto conditions. Cartographers often deal with complaints by “customizing” maps to satisfy specific customers. For an order of 10,000 globes, customers could have mostly what they want. He worked closely with the C.I.A. and U.S. and foreign government agencies and relied on his own expertise to keep the globes up to date. Replogle’s factory offered globes in as many as 10 languages and sold 2/3 of the world’s globes. Its factory turned out globes from softball size to 32” retailing for between $7.95 and $3500. He met his wife on a trans-Atlantic cruise in 1984. She returned to her job with Chevron in San Francisco and they married in 1992. Memorial Service 11am Saturday, Sept. 19th at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Hinsdale, 412 S. Garfield St. Private inurnment Mt. Olive Cemetery, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Salvation Army appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home, Countryside at 708/352-6500 or hjfunerals.com
