Frederick R. Fahey, US Navy Veteran, of Countryside. Loving husband of the late Ann Marie Fahey; devoted father of Sean (Amy), Colleen Fahey, Tim (Kimber), Cathleen (Brian) Sible, and Peggy (John) Blair; cherished grandfather of 10; adored great-grandfather of 10; dear brother of Russ (Patricia) Fahey and the late Phillip (Patricia) Fahey; brother-in-law of the late Pat (Shirley), Ed (Carol), and Dennis Miller; fond uncle of many. Visitation 4 to 7pm Monday, January 15th, 2018 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Meet at the Funeral Home 10:45am Tuesday, January 16th for prayers and procession to St. Cletus Church, LaGrange for Mass at 11:30am. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are appreciated. Frederick was a proud member of the American Legion Post 1941. He was a member of the IL Athletic Trainers Assoc., Inc. Hall of Fame and influenced many through his career as an athletic trainer at Morton West High School. Thank you for your kindness, gentleness and leadership in the early years of the IATA. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers as we travel down memory lanes. Oh, to be young again and experience the thrill of an injury free game night. Spending time with colleagues and sharing a laugh about the differences at the University of Illinois when you attended and during my tenure. Thank you !! Fred, save up the jokes and I hope we can share the in a couple or three decades again. God speed to family and God bless.
Thank you Fred for all the positive contributions you made to the athletic training profession, and the IATA. You were a pioneer in the development of the profession in Illinois. You were a leader and mentor. You influenced and helped countless student athletes at Morton West. You served so many, but always with kindness, understanding and humor. Thank you for your friendship, and for the gift of yourself, which you gave so freely. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. You will be missed, but not forgotten.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Fahey family today as you bury Fred. I recall Fred as one of the many rock stars at Morton West High School as he served as a coach, trainer, PE instructor and guidance counselor. He was part of a select group of men who influenced many lives at Morton. They include Jim Vopicka, Jim Regan, Ken Geiger and Bob Soucek. They all worked closely with Fred and valued his contributions. I am certain that there are some lively conversations being shared up in heaven now that Fred has reached his final goal. God bless you.
