David E. Olson

David E. Olson peacefully passed away Friday, October 12th at his home in LaGrange Park, surrounded by family.  Dave was an accomplished high school athlete and went on to earn a B.S. in Engineering from the University of Illinois and a MBA from University of Chicago. He had a long, successful career at Sargent & Lundy LLC, where he was responsible for design, implementation, and diagnostic problem solving of power plants. He advanced his field by serving as Chairman for the ASME Operations and Maintenance Subgroup on Piping Vibration, a group responsible for writing OM-3 Standards, developing technical expertise and guidance by problem-solving at 50 plus power plants and publishing over 20 technical papers.

Dave loved spending time with his wife and children where he was a devoted husband and father. He was a longstanding soccer coach and mentor. In addition to his family, Dave made many friends due to his sense of humor and caring nature.

Dave is lovingly remembered by his wife Rita and children Katrina and Lukas; by his siblings Linda Olson, Diane (Larry) LaPointe, Janice Otto, and Larry (Patty) Olson; predeceased by caring parents Leland and Dorris Olson; missed by his nieces and nephews Lisa LaPointe, Laura, Matt, and Eric Otto, Heather Wilke, and Adam Olson.

Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 16th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside from 3 pm to 9 pm. Will lie-in-state Wednesday, October 17 from 9 am until time of funeral service, 10 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 200 N. Catherine Ave., LaGrange. Interment to follow at Saint Casimir Cemetery, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name to the Nat’l Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (npcf.us/) or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) are appreciated.  Funeral Info: 708-352-6500
