Mary Alice Mumford

Mary Alice Mumford, 56, of Naperville, Illinois passed away November 2, 2018. She was a loving daughter of Paul A. Mumford and the late Shirley J. Mumford. Mary Alice grew up in LaGrange, Illinois and leaves her sisters Kathleen and Patricia and her brothers, the late Stephen, Daniel, Thomas and Peter. Mary Alice was a much loved and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She will truly be missed.

Mary Alice graduated from Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, IL and College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. She also attended the University of Iowa. She was employed as a Systems Analysis Coordinator for several European banks. She had many hobbies, including photography, traveling, cooking, genealogy and most importantly, spending time with her beloved dogs, Smithwick and Kilkenny Cream.

Visitation 4 to 8 pm on Wednesday, November 14 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Funeral service 11am on Thursday, November 15 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of LaGrange, 203 S. Kensington, LaGrange. Memorial donations in Mary Alice’s name to the Hinsdale Humane Society (hinsdalehumanesociety.org) are appreciated. Funeral info: (708) 352-6500.

    All of us at The Crate Escape are deeply saddened to hear of Mary Alice’s passing. She will be remembered as one of the most devoted dog moms we have ever known. Her true love and dedication to Smithwick and Kenny who were the loves of her life goes unmatched. We have been honored to have them as part of our daycare family since 2013. She and her furkids will be missed very
    much. We are here for Smithwick and Kenny and hope you will reach out to us if we can help care for them in any way.

    We take comfort knowing one day Mary Alice will be reunited with Smithwick and Kenny.

  2. We are so heartbroken to hear of Mary Alice’s passing, we were just with her and the dogs at fall camp last month. Mary Alice, Smithwick and Kilkenny Cream were loved by many at Camp Dogwood. Our hearts are with her family and of course the dogs. We know it has been a rough time for your family, and are very sorry.

  3. Mary Alice was a beloved part of our dog loving community at For Your K9. She was always happy and loved training Smithwick and Kilkenny. She volunteered at our trials and helped in everything dog related. She adored her dogs and did so much with them. Mary Alice will be sorely missed. We were blessed to have Mary Alice and her dogs as part of our family. If there is anything you need for the dogs and their care, please let us know.

  4. I met Alice at Camp Dogwood several years ago and we always met up to talk dogs. She was always cheerful and her primary focus was making sure Smithwick and Kilkenny Cream were happy, healthy and lived fun-filled lives. I will miss her dearly. Her family, friends and beloved dogs are in my prayers.

  6. I was so shocked to learn of Mary Alice’s passing. We met at For Your K9 and always shared laughs and stories about our dogs. We learned that we both grew up in LaGrange and that she lived near my sister-in-law Sherie Vear and knew my brother Bill McGowan.
    I am so sad to hear of her passing. She was a lovely caring person and a great mom to her beloved dogs.

  7. I met Mary Alice at Dog Camp a few years ago — we both stayed in the cabins and would often chat when we were not at events. We shared the love of dogs. Mary Alice had a wonderful and generous heart especially when it came to loving her dogs. She will be missed. Her light will make a star shine brighter.

  9. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy at Mary Alice’s passing. I am so sad for her, for Smithwick, and for Kenny; their separation from each other is tragic and deeply distressing. The three of them made such a lovely family and were delightful company at the park. This is such a sad time.

  10. I met Mary Alice on the Danube River Cruise. She was a good soul! You just know that about people when you meet them. Mary Alice was one of those people! She will be missed by many.
