Sister Joyce Hajdukovic, SFFC, Ph.D.

Sister Joyce Hajdukovic, SFFC, Ph.D. died on March 5, 2019. She was formerly Sister Mary Lucia of the Sisters of St Joseph Third Order of Saint Francis.

Born on June 28, 1942 in Chicago, IL and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Grammar School and Lourdes High School. Sister Joyce entered the Convent of the Sisters of St Joseph in 1956, making her final vows in 1959. She later joined the international ecumenical community, Sisters for Christian Community.

Sister Joyce was an educator to both children and adults. Sister taught elementary school and special education in many schools throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Chicago Public Schools. Later in life, Sister Joyce taught Sacred Scripture, spiritual direction and Christian spirituality to adults. She is the author of the book Love Beckons: God’s Gift of Prayer.

Sister Joyce held a Master’s Degree in Theology from Marquette University and a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Loyola University Chicago. She obtained her PhD in Christian Mystical Theology from the Graduate Theological Foundation of Oxford University, England.

She is preceded in death by her Mother, Beatrice (Pesek) Hajdukovic and Father, Stephen Hajdukovic. She is survived by her brother, Stephen F. Hajdukovic, nephew Stephen T. (Corrine) Hajdukovic and niece Susan (Brian) Cahill.

Visitation 4 to 8pm on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:45am on Monday, March 11, 2019 at St John of the Cross Parish, 5005 S. Wolf Road, Western Springs.
