María Elena Serrano, age 84, originally of Chihuahua, Mexico, longtime resident of LaGrange & Cicero, Illinois; beloved wife of the late Sebastian Serrano, Sr.; loving mother of Eva Serrano, Sebastian (Colleen) Serrano, Jr., & Arturo (Kerry) Serrano; proud grandmother of Matthew Tapia, and Tommy & Nicholas Serrano; dear sister of Graciela T. Muñoz and the late Andrés Muñoz; cherished aunt, cousin, & friend to many. María Elena will be remembered for her joyous spirit, generous heart, and love of music & dancing. Visitation 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Funeral prayers at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24, from the funeral home to St. Cletus Church, LaGrange. Mass at 10 a.m. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Info: (708) 352-6500

  1. So sad to hear the news. My deepest condolences to Arturo, Basty, Eva and all the family. I will miss my Tia, but I know that she is not suffering anymore. Thank you Tia for your love, your laughter and zest for life. You will always be in my heart. Rest in peace, until we see each other again. Love you for ever.

  4. I am so sorry I cannot make the funeral. Elena was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. I fondly remember dancing with her at Matthews graduation. She was so much fun and she loved trees! She lived a joyous life and set good examples. My sincerest condolences to you all.

    Estoy en NYC con mi hija y familia, el jueves los papás salieron de la ciudad, estoy con mis nietos.
    Mañana a las 10 am. iré a misa, me uniré a ustedes en sus oraciones y al recibir la eucaristía.
    Maria Elena fue una mujer inolvidable, siempre estará en mi pensamiento.

  6. My deepest condolences to the Serrano family. It was always a pleasure to see Mari Elena. I really enjoyed her dancing at family parties and how she always lifted everyone’s spirits. I pray that God blesses and consoles you during this difficult time.

  7. Abuelita I love you so much. You were the light of my life that made all my days bright. You were always life of the party, you brought people together through your infectious passion and energy. You always made people feel like they were safe, like they were at home, and most importantly loved. You are living through me each day as I seek to replicate that joy and love for life you possessed. The word “focus” will always stick with me and remind me of you, I l miss you Abuelita, I am carrying on your legacy and living for you each day. You are forever on my mind and in my heart, until we meet again
