  1. Barb, Keith, Dave, Tom, Robin and families – My condolences to all. Very sorry to hear the sad news. Joe was a hell of a guy from the old school of life with great common sense second to none. He was a good ole boy whose laid back, calming demeanor was as big as his physical presence and size. Many great memories of Joe on the PD from his impressions of people, his ventriloquism, smoking those Backwoods cigars, boxing in the basement of the PD to his black Ford pick up truck with the camper back that had the craziest steering. Joe wasn’t interested in impressing people rather just bring himself with his great people skills especially with his subordinates and the public, skills for others to emulate. Rest In Peace my friend, you will be missed. See you on the other side for a rematch!

  2. As a good friend of Jeff & Michelle’s, I had the pleasure of meeting Joe several times over the years.

    My condolences to the family.

  3. To the Leatherwood Family:

On behalf of the men and women of the La Grange Police Department, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Our sincere condolences on the loss of Joe. Our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow.

  4. “GENTLE GIANT’, that describes joe to a tee. A man of integrity, common sense, and great intelligence! He was a friend to all and yet had fantastic leadership abilities. We were best of buddies for over fifty years. Many trips and great times together. He was one of a kind and will be missed by all! R.I.P. joe, you deserve it. Bob Gagne
