Elizabeth Ann Savage
Elizabeth Ann Savage (nee Dorosz), age 63, of Countryside. Beloved wife of Michael P. Savage. Loving mother of Jessica (Scott) Penso, Bridget Savage, Kevin Savage (fiancé Lisa Janasik), and step-mother of Kate (Juan) Cabrera. Devoted grandmother of Blaize and Coltyn Penso. Dear sister of Mary and Brendan Farmer, Paul and Linda Dorosz, and Brian and Toni Dorosz. Preceded in death by siblings Eugene Dorosz, and Gary (Liz) Dorosz. Adoring daughter of the late Eugene and Myrl Dorosz. Loving aunt to many and friend to all.
As a young woman she knew that she had wanted to work with children but she had not realized that her future would be nursing. After her graduation from College of DuPage with an associates degree in nursing in the late 1970s, she started her career at LaGrange Hospital as an obstetrical/nursery nurse in the OB department, transitioned to Hinsdale Hospital working within the same role, and ultimately retired from the Mother-Baby Unit in Edward Hospital in 2014 due to her declining health. While it broke her heart to finish her nursing career journey so soon, Beth dedicated her work as a nurse to support women and babies, and is remembered fondly by many as playing an integral role in their transition from child to young adult to parent.
Beth’s legacy will be as someone who championed kindness, love, tolerance, and patience above all things. A popular saying by her was that “You can always afford to be kind” and she truly believed and lived that way. Whether you were on the receiving end of her care packages as a lonely college student, a nurses aid who was learning how to make a difference in a large and sometimes impersonal health care system, or a child who needed someone to tirelessly fight and protect you, Beth was always there to fill that role. With her enjoyment of folk music, antique tea cups, and self-described “dorky” behavior, she shared her passions with friends and family. Two of her favorite things to do were “Doing Lunch” and enjoying Hallmark Movie marathons while enjoying a chocolate treat. Beth, or Auntie Ba is truly loved, and her passing is mourned by all.
Friends and family are welcome to gather for a memorial visitation at Hallowell & James Funeral Home 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside on Friday, July 29, from 2 until 9 pm, with a Memorial Mass to follow on Saturday, July 30, at 10 am at Saint Cletus Church, 600 W. 55th St., in LaGrange, with a memorial luncheon to follow. There will be no meeting at the funeral home prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated. Service Info: (708) 352-6500
So very sorry for your loss. Beth was a wonderful nurse and friend and will be greatly missed. Our world is a better place because she was with us. So sorry.
Beth and i shared a love of the movie “stuart saves his family” a SNL spin off movie to which we would quote quite often at work. I miss you my dear friend. You were always the bigger sister i never had
My heart is full of the friendship we shared- the times we cried and laughed-and the times we drove each other crazy! You don’t have many “best” friends in life….You’re. Lucky if you have one. I have been blessed to count Beth as one of those! I will never look at Baked French onion soup, or “lunch w the girls” or cardinals or the Arboretum the same way again.FOREVER IN MY HEART! HOME WITH JESUS!
Beth was a lovely lady. She taught me so much in the nursery. Always soft spoken and a wonderful sense of humor. She will be missed by many. She is with Jesus now and in no pain. ????????????????????????????????
So sorry for your loss. Beth was definitely one of the good ones. They are the ones that God takes back early. She will be missed by her family, her friends, and everyone whose life she has touched.
Beth is sorely missed on our Mother/Baby Unit at Edward Hospital. She was not only an outstanding nurse, but also a compassionate & kind individual, an inspiration to me personally. My deepest sympathy to her whole family. May her memories hold in your family’s hearts forever.

Even during her last months, she was a delight to be with. She greeted us with her wonderful smile and upbeat personality. She never dwelt on the inevitable, but instead talked of our families and remembrances.
We will always cherish our time with her at the end and during all our years of family visits. She is irreplaceable, but will forever have our love and live in our minds and hearts!

Beth was such a beautiful person, both inside and out. Being a nurse was just a perfect career for her as she was always helping, caring and taking care of people, both at work and home. No matter what life threw at her she always had a sunny disposition. Her courageous battle with cancer and her fight to live were something to behold. I will treasure those Sunday afternoon visits this spring and summer in which we talked about the “Swedes” and ancestry/geneaology searches. She loved every little bit of information we found on ancestry.com. Mary and Brendan took such good care of her. The love for her in their house was wonderful and she loved them and all her family so much.
The love she brought all of children was endless. Patience and love overflowed from her. Celebrate a life well lived.
