Elaine H. Kennedy of LaGrange Park, formerly of Western Springs and Hinsdale. Born June 5, 1932 in Hinsdale; died January 20, 2018 at her home. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald A. Kennedy. Loving mother of Anne Kennedy, Martha Kennedy and Donald George (Carie)Kennedy; devoted grandmother of Michael Kennedy, Joseph Donald “JD” and Meghan Anne Malone, Ingrid Elaine and Margot Victoria Weiss and Audrey Thayer and Sophia Summer Kennedy; fond aunt of Barbara (Dan) Lawhorn, Nancy (Timothy) Papadapoulas and Laura Hamrick. Elaine was a lifelong resident of the Western Suburbs, graduating from HTHS class of 1950 and celebrated reunions for many years following. She attended Beloit College from 1951 – 1952 and later graduated from Elmhurst College in 1984, because of her love of learning. She was an active member of Tri Delta sorority for 67 years and treasured her BBC Beloit friends.
Elaine loved to entertain and bring people of all ages together. She cherished friendships with many for her entire life. She especially enjoyed her time with Long Lake in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Proud of her grandchildren she supported each of their interests with joy.
Elaine was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Western Springs where she was a faithful Altar Guild member. She volunteered for many years at LaGrange Community Hospital as a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed her book group, playing bridge, tennis, a little 9-hole golf course and cultural offerings of the Chicago Symphony, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Theatre of Western Springs. She was a member of Questers and participated in area historical projects.
Elaine worked for Needham, Loui s& Brorby and First Congregational Church of Western Springs. She spent a lifetime loving her husband, children and grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m, Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Plymouth Place 315 N. LaGrange Rd., LaGrange Park. Inurnment private at Bronswood cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations may be made to support movement disorders research at Rush University Medical Center, 1700 West Van Buren, Suite 250, Chicago, Illinois 60612 or to All Saints Episcopal Church, 4370 Woodland Ave., Western Springs, Il 60558 Hallowell & James Funeral Home in Countryside assisted the family with all arrangements.
