Helen L .Taaffe, age 101, of LaGrange; beloved wife of the late Andrew; loving mother of Kathryn (Michael) McLearn, the late Andrea Taaffe (Alan Gordon), David (Diana) Taaffe, & Jane (Joseph) Yount; proud & cherished grandmother of 9 and great-grandmother of 6; dear aunt and loving friend to many.
All local services scheduled for Helen L. Taaffe have been cancelled and will be postponed until further notice. Updated service information will be provided once a re-scheduled date has been confirmed.
A private service and interment in New Jersey will also be held at a later date.

I believe I met Helen many years ago when, from about 1960 to 1964 Andy Taaffe was my direct superior in the Agencies Planning and Research Section at Prudential Insurance. My answers on Prudential’s selection tests apparently did not conform to expected standards, but Andy went to bat to get me hired anyway. I had recently completed a Master’s degree in psychology, and this was my first full-time job in Human Resources (then called “Personnel”). Andy was a great boss. He was kind, patient and a mentor. I can still hear him saying “Nothing new is being invented in psychological testing, only the names are changed to make it appear like a new concept.” Andy let me sit at my desk after 4:30 P.M. when everyone else on the floor left for the day and I took out my textbooks to continue studying for my Ph.D. at the Illinois Institute of Technology. I learned a great deal under Andy’s direction, lessons that are still useful today. And I would like to extend my sincerest condolences and best wishes to the Taaffe family. Herbert S.
