Michael James Griffin
Michael was born into eternal life on May 22, 2020. He was the son of the late Bridie and Michael Griffin (County Galway) and brother of the late William Francis. Loving husband, best friend and dance partner of Judith A. Griffin; devoted father of Peter James (Meg), Andrew Charles (Margot), Michael Thomas (Nicole); and iconic “Mipa” to Ele (Dennis Gast), Michael Collin, Louis, Alex, Michael Andrew, Miles, Samuel and Anne Griffin.
Michael was a graduate of St. Ignatius High School, the University of Illinois (Engineering) and IIT-Chicago-Kent College of Law (JD). He served in the United States Army, spent his early career as a civil engineer, and retired as Chief Engineer, Bureau of Right of Way, Cook County Highway Department, a post he held for many years.
Michael was a supportive and beloved brother-in-law to Sr. Bernadine Karge, O.P., Mary Ellen Alfred (James) and Rosemary Cius (Stephen); a caring uncle and cousin; a loyal friend, colleague and neighbor.
His wisdom, unique humor and charm will be cherished by all who knew him. “He was a good man.”

Dear Drew, Margot, Ele & Dennis, Louis and Miles, We are so sorry to hear of the passing of your father and grandfather. He sounds like he was a wonderful man and we would have loved to have met him. I am sorry to hear the passing of Michael Griffin ( my uncle ). I remember him being as strong and good as his father.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Mike. He and Judy are my godparents and I’m sad to say that though we have shared in holiday cards for many years that we should get together when I’m in town, I didn’t make that happen. I have many fond memories of Mike & Judy and the whole family from my childhood – the whole passel of Griffin, O’Brien, Sherman, and Spellman kids seemed intertwined at times. I know it is especially hard during this time when you can’t gather with friends and family to share memories and a few laughs along with the tears. Please know that my family is keeping all of you in our prayers. I’ll watch for a future date celebration but until then Godspeed and God Bless
