Mary Jo Noonan

Mary Jo Noonan, retired Lyons Township Clerk and former owner of the Des Plaines Valley News, passed away September 18, 2020. Beloved wife of the late John C. Noonan. Loving mother of Robert (Lori) Noonan. Devoted grandmother of Daniel, Kevin, and Elizabeth. Dear sister of Lucille (late Agostino) Alagna, the late Joseph (Marilyn) Naponiello, and Christopher (Deborah) Naponiello. Fond aunt of many nieces and nephews. Interment was held privately.

Family and friends are invited to meet directly at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Rd., Western Springs, IL 60558 for a memorial Mass on Saturday, November 28th at 11am. All guests must register for Mass at

  1. Mary Jo was a fantastic person. Our paths crossed many years ago while volunteering at the Relay for Life. She will be missed. Prayers to all of her family and friends.

  2. To Robert, Laurie ,Lucille Christopher and families,

    I was so sad to hear about my cousin Mary Jo’s death. She had a beautiful and loving personality to whom ever she came in contact with. We try to keep in contact on a monthly bases. My teaching job keeps me extremely busy and going to school for my doctorate.in education.
    I often thought Mary Jo might had been a nun. She was always there for everyone.
    I know God has a special place for her.
    A mass was said for her on September 25, 2020 at our retreat house in Albuquerque ,N.M.
    She will be remember in my prayers.

  3. I didn’t know until I looked at this site today that Mary Jo passed away. I’m so sorry to hear the news. Mary Jo was a dedicated worker and a great women. I’m sorry to see her go and will always keep her in my memory. My prayers go out to her family.

  4. I loved Mary Jo. She called had me call her Aunt Mary Jo because of her friendship with your cousin Marian. She loved her family so!

  5. Dear Robert and family. So sorry to hear about Mary Jo. She was a great person and knew how to take care of business while being friendly and personable to all. She did a good job when she took over newspaper from Dad and ran it as he would have. She certainly will be missed by many.

  6. I was shocked to read about Mary Jo’s passing. She and I have been friends since we were 6 years old. I will miss speaking with her and hearing about her exploits and receiving family updates. My prayers are with her family.

  7. I’m so sorry to just hear about Mary Jo’s passing. We worked together at the Clerk of the Circuit Court and lived a few blocks away so we saw each other often. She was a wonderful person, always kind, knowledgeable and willing to help. She leaves behind many fond memories.
