Aubrey Clay McKinnon
On December 10, 1928, ninety-two years ago, a second son was born in Holly Springs, Mississippi to Breno B. and Carra Glass McKinnon. They named him Aubrey Clay McKinnon, who would later be one of fourteen children born to this couple. Aubrey was educated in the Marshall County School District and received Christ at Calvary Church in Holly Springs.
Following his older brother Bert, he moved to LaGrange, Illinois in 1950. Aubrey loved working with machinery, which later landed him his first and only job working for Blue Bus Company, which later became known a Pace Transit, where he was faithfully employed for more than three decades as Chief Mechanic.
It was also during his early years in Illinois, that he met and married Dorothy V. Johnston, and the couple remained dedicated to one another for sixty-nine years until his death. He loved fishing and watching westerns and sports on television. A favorite getaway for him was a solo train or bus ride to the Loop, or a peaceful walk through Brookfield Zoo. His garden was his pride, canning fruits and vegetables for his family. And he was best known amongst the community for his mouth-watering Peach Cobblers.
Annually, he looked forward to the Family Reunions. Little did anyone know that a pandemic would halt the 2020 annual family event. Yet, his ninetieth birthday celebration in April was just as memorable for the 150+ family members and friends who gathered.
As peacefully as he entered this world, he quietly fulfilled his destiny on December 23, 2020. Although gentle and soft-spoken and a man of few words, his absence will echo loudly to those who loved him most.

Sorrowfully mourning his passing is his loving wife, Dorothy V. McKinnon, a devoted daughter, Pamela Landry, grandson Christopher Landry (Alma), great-grandson Gavin Landry, brothers: Deloyd, Chicago, Il, Benard (Barbara), Maywood, IL, Elihue, Broadview, IL, Ralph (Ann), Chicago, IL; sisters: Joan (Roger) Pegues, Chicago, IL, Claudette Jones, Memphis, TN, Gladys Ashford, Maywood, IL, Joyce (Samuel) Nevils, Broadview, IL, Carlean Russell, Washington, DC, and Audria (Bernard) Cummings, Florissant, MO, and nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, too many to mention. Uncle Aubrey was a gentle soul who always provided timely advice. Rest in Heaven my dear Uncle and my the peace of God be with you until we meet again.

Uncle Aub was the epitome of a gentleman. He and Aunt Dorothy’s marriage was one to be idolized…full of love, companionship AND friendship. While he will be missed greatly, he will remembered as the true definition of a good man. Love you Aunt Dorothy!
I am grateful to have had an uncle as kind as Uncle Aubrey. I loved that he liked to take walks locally and in the city. He may have been a man of few words, but he was very observant. His presence will be missed. Thanks for taking such good care of him Aunt Dorothy.

Uncle Aubrey some of my fondest childhood memories were paddle boat riding and fishing with you at Wall Doxey State Park. As an adult, I enjoyed our talks about nothing in particular but any and everything. My heart aches as I have lost a very dear uncle, but I rejoice in knowing that you will rest eternally with our Heavenly Father.
He was one of a kind. He was gentle, caring and loving. The jokes and laughter we shared at the family reunions I will cherish for ever! I will remember his quiet presence in the room. Rest well uncle Aubrey job well done!
Uncle Aubrey, I always appreciated your cool demeanor in every situation. Never before have we needed a sense of calm as much as we do right now. I will definitely miss you. Rest peacefully.
I will miss my Uncle Aubrey. During our family reunions, I always enjoyed listening to his stories and life journey. While I am sad that I cannot attend his homecoming, I know he is in heaven with Daddy BB, Momma Carra, Uncle Gaston, Aunt Constance and Uncle Bert.
To my Aunt Dorothy, Pam and Chris, you have my heartfelt sympathy during this time.

Uncle Aubrey, I remember seeing you on your bike everyday on my way to the train. We would do our daily wave and wish each other a great day. You will be missed.

Uncle Aubrey, my greatest memory of you were at a family reunion in Carolina getting ready to board the bus you were standing like a watchman at the gate, I ask what was wrong , he stated softly “ I waiting to every one board the bus. I felt so loved and honor, for his great love for his family “ I love and will truly miss you RIH Uncle!!!
