Marianna Jeffrey (nee Sciacca), age 92, of LaGrange, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 12, 2021. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip Jeffrey, and her loving parents Salvatore and Francesca Sciacca.

Loving mother to Anna (Ramon) Cepeda, Philip (Erica) Giuffre, and Robert Jeffrey; proud Nonna to Marina Cepeda, R. Daniel Cepeda, Sara Cepeda, Amelia Giuffre, Daniela Giuffre, Dominic Giuffre, and the late Sofia Giuffre; loving sister to Joseph (Maria) Sciacca, Rosa (Joseph) Cecala, the late Angelina (Antonino) Episcopo, and the late Antonino (Marianna) Sciacca. Beloved aunt, cousin, and friend to many.

Marianna grew up in Ciminna, Sicily and came to the United States in the 1960’s. In Sicily, she helped run her family’s store. Upon arrival in the U.S., she worked as a seamstress for Hart, Schaffner & Marx in Chicago. Marianna was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, growing fruits and vegetables, and singing all her favorite Italian songs. She was a devoted Catholic who loved teaching her grandchildren to love Jesus and prayed the rosary daily. She was well known in the neighborhood for her huge vegetable garden that was comprised of everything from beans and tomatoes, to corn, watermelon, and cucuzzi. She loved her backyard peach, pear, and cherry trees. No family celebration was ever complete without her homemade pizza, ravioli and amazing apple pie. She will be sorely missed for her laughter, singing, and loving, generous heart.

Visitation from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, January 18th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St, Countryside. A maximum of 10 people admitted to the funeral home at any time. Social distancing guidelines in place, masks required.
