Lawrence T. Skippet, Jr.

Lawrence ‘Larry’ T. Skippet, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 12, 2021 after a long battle with dementia. Larry was born on November 4, 1957 with Down’s Syndrome at a time when Down’s Syndrome children had limited educational and other opportunities. Despite that, Larry lived a full and joyous life. Larry loved everyone and never had an unkind or cross word for anyone. Everyone who met Larry loved him.

In his youth, Larry was a proud Boy Scout. He was excited to be a volunteer at Holy Cross Hospital in his 20s. He loved Florida and its hot weather, especially because the one thing in life he did not like was snow!

Larry enjoyed many things in life, including cars, food, having company over to the house, 1960s TV shows (especially Gunsmoke and the Andy Griffith Show), opening presents, the Three Stooges, helping people, nurses of Asian heritage, and especially his parents (“Luvie” and “Loverboy”) and his “sweetheart” sister, Nancy, who cared for Larry for the last 35 years of his life. Larry also loved all the ladies and they loved him back!

Larry knew all the different car types and models and he would attend the auto show every year. Larry drove bumper cars once, and he loved it, especially the head-on collisions!

Larry loved to eat and he had a prodigious appetite even though he never gained weight. He especially liked Chinese buffets, vanilla and chocolate Long Johns, and “pannie cakes” with whipped cream for breakfast. Larry’s favorite dessert was Weber Bakery atomic birthday cakes.

Larry was always excited to attend parties of all types – any party that had lots of people, food, and fun.

Larry leaves for everyone that knew him memories that will make them smile every day, including his many pet phrases he would use in conversations – “I’ll take two”, “I like it both ways”, “I have a big appetite”, “I like you”, “I love it”, and “say it 47 times.”

Larry was preceded in death by his special parents, Lawrence Skippet, Sr. and Elizabeth Skippet. He is survived by his two loving sisters, Nancy (Rich Campbell) and Carol (Jim) Schull, his wondrous niece, Lauren Sanuw (Nathan Sinico), and by all those who met him and shared in his joy and love of life.

  1. I will miss Larry so much! He was such a special guy. My heart goes out to my sister in law Nancy who was Larry’s true hero! She made sure Larry enjoyed every facet of life he could. Rest now Larry with your mom and dad.

  2. Thank you Lauren for posting that beautiful tribute to Larry and Nancy. That’s the way I’ll always remember him, with that infectious smile! Now it’s his turn to look out for Nancy, as her guardian angel. Rest in peace, my friend – with the rest of the angels.
