Timothy Francis Foley

Tim Foley, of Countryside, IL, formerly of Buffalo, NY, died July 11, 2021 surrounded by love and in peace at his home.  Cherished husband of the late Jane Foley; son of the late Julia (nee Moriarty) and James Foley; dear brother of Elizabeth (Robert) Benbenek and James (Patricia) Foley. Also survived by step brothers and sisters of the Frawley family. Dear uncle and great uncle to many. Devoted father of Tim (Olga) and Jennifer (Jerry) Courier. Adoring grandfather of Eleanor and Daniel Patrick Foley, and Hannah, Madigan, Lily and Kathryn Courier.

A Bishop Timon High School graduate, Tim later graduated from Canisius College and later earned his MBA at the University of Buffalo. Tim served in the U.S. Marine Corps earning the rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed a long, successful career at the Peter J. Schmitt Company where he began in 1962 as an accountant and stepped away nearly thirty years later as Executive Committee Chairman.  During his years at Peter J. Schmitt he found time to serve as Chairman of the Boards of Trustees at Medaille College and Hilbert College and served a term on the board of the Hospice Buffalo Fund. After his productive thirty years, Tim, with Jane by his side decided to begin a new chapter in their lives.

Moving to Chicago in 1996, Tim started a tax consulting company and earned his Enrolled Agent certification all the while loving his favorite role of all times, being “Poppy” to his grandchildren.  Over the next twenty years, Tim with Jane at his constant side, traveled visiting dear friends, made beautiful new friends, and devoted himself to building and nurturing his greatest treasure – his family. Forever singing Irish songs, sharing his fine Irish brogue, never without a smile on his face, Tim was the epitome of a gentleman and patriarch.  Always quietly slipping money into his grandchildren’s hands, and sending supportive, encouraging texts, and telling them over and over how much he loved them. However, Tim’s greatest love was his wife of 53 years, Jane.  And Jane, in her own fabulous way, called him home on their 57th wedding anniversary. We will forever miss the twinkle in his blue eyes, the lilt in his voice while singing Danny Boy, holding our hands saying, “cold hands, warm heart,” and the powerful sense of love and security that radiated from his soul.  Síocháin!

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tim’s name may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

Family and friends to gather at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Ave. in LaGrange for Funeral Mass at 10am on Saturday July 31, 2021 followed by a reception at LaGrange Country Club.
