John,
Sometimes someone comes into your life and makes such a strong impact.
You are my mentor, you taught me so much about your business. You made it fun and interesting.
Coming to work even in your 90’s how amazing! I will miss your stories about the old days.
My dear friend, you have been a father figure and confidant and I will truly miss you! I will miss you checking up on us at work. I will miss all our phone calls.
Find peace now my friend, your pain and suffering is over.
Love, Pam
I first met Joan’s father when I traveled to Chicago for her marriage to my brother. He was certainly memorable with his colorful personality and wit.
The second time I was lucky enough to see him was during a visit to Arizona. I remember his entertaining stories at the dining room table. Joan was such a caring and loving daughter making frequent trips to Chicago over the years to visit and assist her father. He lived a full life and was fortunate have a loving family.
He is free from pain now and reunited with his loved ones in heaven. 🙏
Uncle John, I hope you have found peace and comfort with your family and friends who have been waiting for you in Heaven. Rest easy “champ.”
On February 16th, our family would have celebrated John’s 94th birthday. Even though we knew John’s health had been failing over the past few years, it is never easy when the end comes. John was “bigger than life” with a quick wit. My brother was eight years older than me and loved to tease me at every opportunity. When our father died at a very young age, John became my “father figure”, and when I married he was at my side as he walked me down the aisle. John made sure that our wedding reception was very special.
John as early as his twenties, ran a successful business. Over the years he was the owner of Corvair Furniture, Riverside Distributors and, Furniture Outlet, in Bedford Park. Quit possibly, at the time of John’s death he was the oldest furniture retailer in the Chicago area.
John’s wife Leanette passed away a few years ago. Leanette was a devoted wife and mother, and always made sure that John and Joan had a happy home. God Bless John and Leanette.
My dad and I had a very special bond. He was my protector and confidant. He encouraged me to leave Chicago to attend ASU, although my mom and he never thought I would meet my husband there and make our home in Arizona.
I learned so much from my dad about the business world. When I asked his advice about starting my own business, he laughed and said to me, “Joan, people can point the gun, but they can’t always pull the trigger.” This is one of the many crazy quotes and sayings that I loved about him. No one made me laugh harder than my dad. We thought alike on so many topics and had many long conversations over the phone. My dad enjoyed a long, wild ride through life with his businesses and friends. Dad, I am so proud to be your daughter! I love you and I will always miss you!
Dear Joan, I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. I have many fond memories of uncle John’s wit. I always looked forward to seeing him at Great Grandma Zeno’s triplex in berwyn or at Aunt Marianne’s home at Christmas. It is truly so sad that all of the elders have passed. I miss them all so much! I still have a cat figurine that Aunt Lee bought me many years ago when I went shopping with her at Carson’s. My mom Lillian passed in February as well. God speed and hope you are well. ❤️🙏🏼🕊Laura
As a friend and fellow “Tigerette” of John’s sister, Dale I feel almost like family after all these years. Our families and children are like one to me. God Bless you, John, and God Bless to his whole family. Geri
My Padrino will be missed. We have many memories growing up that were comical to say the least. As an adult, I looked forward to seeing him. Even toward the end he was quick witted and was able to verbally spar with the best of them. I’m grateful I was able to see him one more time before he passed. I look forward to celebrating his life with family and friends.
Knowing how much my friend Fidelia loves her family and especially the role her brother played in her life makes me happy to read the many tributes made to his memory. The extended Martoccio family is strong and John’s memory will live on.
