Florence C. Wentworth, 99, of Downers Grove, IL passed away peacefully at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove on Tuesday March 22, 2022. Florence shared so many parts of her life with so many people over her 99-year life span. This and her exuberant friendly nature were reasons why she had so many friends.
She was born on March 22, 1923 in Upland, PA to parents Zora and Leila Cannon of Eddystone, PA. Florence was raised in Eddystone and was one of five children. Her parents provided piano lessons which she took to with enthusiasm and revealed her natural talent which served her well throughout her life.
She graduated from Eddystone High School, then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Westchester University in Westchester, PA in 1945, and began her teaching career at Green Ridge elementary school in Aston, PA. She interrupted her teaching career to marry Karl T Wentworth and raise a family of three children: Paul, Louise and Mark. She started teaching part time again when her children grew older and became an active church member at Mount Hope Methodist Church in Aston, PA.
In 1970 she made a big life change when her husband Karl moved the family to Downers Grove from Aston, PA. She easily made new friends in the community of Bruce Lake and was very active in community events of the Bruce Lake Homeowners Association and an active long-time member in Woodridge United Methodist Church of Woodridge IL where she sang in the choir.
She also taught preschool at Small Business Preschool of Downers Grove and became an active member in the Garden Club of Downers Grove where she submitted many floral arrangements during their annual Garden Club competition garnering many award ribbons for her floral artistry.
Florence is preceded in death by husband Karl and daughter Louise. She is survived by two sons, Paul and Mark.
A visitation will be held 1:30-3 p.m. Friday June 17, 2022 at Woodridge United Methodist Church, 2700 West 75th St, Woodridge, IL, followed by funeral service at 3 p.m.

Dear Mark,
So sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. Your were a good son and did everything that you possibly could do in her lifetime. You made her transition to heaven that much better. Please accept our condolences.

Your mother had the most wonderful smile and brought happiness to all who knew her. Her piano playing at Oak Trace was joyful .What a fine son you have been to her , Mark. She will be long remembered by her many Bruce Lake friends. Many of us have flowers, (trumpet) seeds that she gave us. Our sympathy to all the family
Joan Thomas.
I’m so sorry to hear of Florence’s passing. I currently live in her former Bruce lake home. I wanted to share that my oldest son when he was in 1st grade went on a field trip with his class to the assisted living home Florence was at and I had his teacher ask if she was there and if they could connect my son and her because I thought it would be a special meeting. My son got to talk with her and play a game and she told him a bunch of stories about living here and her life. My son thought it was so special too. I never got to meet her but I hear so many great things from neighbors who knew her and I love that my son got to spend some time getting to know her. May she rest peacefully and her beautiful memories live on through everyone whom had the pleasure to know her.
Your mother was a very special person. I can see her sitting at the dessert table every year on the Fourth of July. She always had a smile on her face and was so happy peasant and kind to everyone! She was a precious addition to Bruce Lake. She will be missed.
I first met Ms. Florence at her daughters funeral and I realized what an amazing lady she was. She was always happy to see me and I spent many hours with her while she told me some of her many stories. She started with the one of when she first married Karl. She was also an amazing piano player and I would sing and encourage others to join us to bring cheer to all. She told me not to be sad when I lost my brother and then my mother because GOD had a plan for them that we here on earth do not understand. She ended with, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil”! Ms. Florence had a long wonderful life here and now she joined Karl and Louise on her next venture of being a Guardian Angel to someone very special.
Mrs. Wentworth was a darling person. We had many charming conversations over the years when we met out walking. I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. Many prayers and blessings are wished for your family.
So very sad to hear of our dear friend’s passing. “Auntie Florence” as our three daughters grew to call her, was an amazing, beautiful neighbor who welcomed us with open arms when we moved next door to her in 1995. Rest in heavenly peace Florence.
I knew Florence through the Garden Club of Downers Grove. Always enjoyed my interactions with her over many years. Lynn Sullivan
So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. She was a terrific woman and Louise reminded me of so many of her wonderful qualities! God Bless you all during this difficult time. Louise is reunited with her Mom and Dad.Wish so much I could be there for the service to pay tribute to this wonderful woman!
Dear Mark & family,
Please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mother. Our familty also moved into Bruce Lake in 1970, where
we were nextdoor neighbors until 1993. when we moved to Mo. Of course, we also have many fond memories
of all the times we spent together at Bruce Lake events, as well as just being neighbors. But, most of all I will remember Florence
as being a very kind and generous woman. May she rest in Peace.
