U. S. Army Sergeant, Searchlight Section Chief, Korean War; Born 2/26/32, Died 7/26/22; Loving son of John T. and Frances (Bohula) Kwak; Survived by devoted wife of 64 years Dorothy (Brocken); daughters Arlene (Robert) Marcinek, Jeanne (Charles J. II) Nortier, and Karyl Braun; grandchildren Brian Howard, April (Shawn) Connor, Katherine (Matthew) Batchler, Joseph Marcinek, Kaitlyn (Jonathan) Jenkins, and Charles J. Nortier III; great-grandsons Colton and Caden Connor, Carter and Weston Batchler; sisters-in-law Patricia Brocken, and Mary (Michael) Finazzo; Preceded in death by sisters Stephanie (Joseph) Pluta, Helen (John) Figus, Bernice (Joseph) Studnicka and brother Frank J. Kwak; sisters-in-law Cecilia Brocken, Patricia (Francis) Urban, and Mary Joan Brocken and brothers-in-law Jacob (Kathryn) Brocken, Clifford (Carol) Brocken, Robert Brocken. Fond uncle to 5 generations of nieces and nephews and good friend to many. He was a fork lift-truck driver and diesel mechanic and a man of all trades, loved music, dancing, entertaining and spending time with his family and friends. Sgt. Kwak received an Award of The Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant for the employment, coordination, and operation of searchlights assigned to his section. Sgt. Kwak’s section provided battlefield illumination for infantry and artillery combat missions despite heavy enemy artillery fire. Visitation will be held from 3-9 pm, Sunday, July 31, 2022 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside, IL. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Monday, August 1, 2022, at St. Cletus Church, 600 W. 55th St., LaGrange, Il. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice.
