Janet M. Wallin
On Saturday July 23rd, Janet M. (Schellinger) Wallin of Chesterton IN, formerly of Western Springs, IL passed away at the age of 82.
Janet is survived by her husband, Paul E. Wallin; her daughter, Anita Wallin and her husband, Joseph Torres and her son Joel Wallin and his wife, Ann Wallin and their children, her precious grandchildren, Grace, Charlie and Ava Wallin, sister-in-law, Glenda Duncan and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth (Allen) Schellinger.
Janet was born on April 9, 1940 in Valparaiso, IN. She graduated from Chesterton High School in 1958 and and went on to attend Ball State University where she graduated with a degree in Education, later in her career received a Master’s degree in Education. She married Paul in 1965, settling in Western Springs in 1971 where they raised their family until recently moving back to her beloved Chesterton in 2019.
Janet was educator for over 40 years. She loved to travel, spend time in Arizona, her loved her pets (and any anima), connecting with friends, many of these friendships were greater than 75 years old and most of all spending time with her family.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2022, at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside, IL. A celebration of life with be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Grace Lutheran Church, 200 N. Catherine Ave., LaGrange, IL, followed by a 1:30 p.m. graveside service and burial at Chesterton Cemetery, 300 E. Porter Ave., Chesterton, IN. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to PAWS Chicago (www.pawschicago.org), Hinsdale Humane Society (www.hinsdalehumanesociety.org), or Mona Pants Foundation (www.monapants.com).
Per the family’s request, due to the increase in COVID-19 transmission rates, and the susceptibility of compromised family and friends, please wear a mask indoors during Janet’s services.
Jan, what a dear person, a wonderfully caring teacher and terrific coworker! We worked together at Cicero East School and at Unity Junior High School.

Jan was more than s sister-in-law to me–she was a real sister! She always had her own opinion about things but would
listen to yours. She always was willing to give you a helping hand. She was one of a kind– a real treasure. She is
irreplaceable.
Rest in peace, Janet. I thought about each cousin differently, you, I envied because you seemed so mature. It’s amazing what perspective a seven year age difference can make. Jim and I have been praying for the family as they trod this new landscape without you.
