Linda S. Lauterbach

Linda S. Lauterbach, age 76, of LaGrange. Beloved wife of Richard “Dick” Lauterbach for 54 short years. Super-mother of Megan (James Majka) Lauterbach and Matthew (Tanya Treptow) Lauterbach. Devoted grandmother of Georgette and Gideon & Jasper and Roscoe.

Linda had wide-ranging interests and many friends to share them. Music, crafts, games and genealogy filled her days. A dedicated pianist and piano teacher, she also played handbells at her church and took up cello in her eighth decade. She created many valued gifts through her crocheting and quilting. She rarely won but always loved Scrabble and Rummikub. Her office was filled to overflowing with genealogical research and she wrote stories to bring the dust of ancestors to life for her family.

Her husband had no chance to keep up with her, but it was worth the effort to try.

A Celebration of Linda’s Life will take place at First Congregational Church of La Grange at 10:30 a.m., Sep. 30, 2023. Memorial gifts can be directed to Friends of Music, First Congregational Church of La Grange or any organization promoting justice and equality.

Arrangements entrusted to Hallowell & James Funeral Home at 708-352-6500.

We loved hearing her teach her students piano, and when she would play solo. Linda will be missed and we will keep her and Dick in our thoughts and prayers.

  6. I knew Linda through our LaGrange area DAR Chapter. She served the Chapter in several positions including Registrar and being our Regent. She was smart and easy to work with. Linda held several DAR gatherings at her home. It was always a treat to visit her there and look at whatever interesting thing she was working on.. especially when she found out that she was going to be a grandmother. One Christmas she arranged for us to have a meeting at her church and listen to the bell ringers. Beautiful. She and I exchanged a lot of DAR paperwork. I was always sure I was at Linda’s house because she proudly displayed her US flag!

  7. Linda was always so caring, thoughtful, and smart. She took very good care of my family during our stay in Chicago. I have great memories of spending time with her and her family. We took meal many times and went shopping together. We also went to her piano concert and she was really good at playing the piano. She was also good at cooking and making handicrafts. Linda gave us her handmade cross-stitch, patchwork, tapestries, and quilts as gifts. I cherish them as treasures. I’ll never forget these nice memories. I deeply appreciate her.

  8. Dick,
I just heard today Oct. 3 about Linda’s passing. I knew her from her time Jazzercising in Hodgkins. Had I known sooner I would have tried to attend her service. May she rest in the Lord’s loving arms.
