Serafin Alano Hernandez, age 91, of LaGrange passed away on October 2, 2023, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Maricris V. Hernandez for a wonderful 11 years and the late Lilia C. Hernandez. Loving father of Maria S. Cuasay, the late John Hernandez, Julius Allan Hernandez and Judith (Charles) Fischer. Devoted grandfather of Jesse Hernandez, Lauren Hernandez and Bailey Hernandez; and Alex Fischer, Brandon Fischer, Cayla Fischer and Dylan Fischer. Cherished great-grandfather of Henry Zabinski, Alexander Zabinski, and Nova Rose Ruther. Dear brother of the late Bienvenido Hernandez and Agnes Hayag. Beloved uncle of Joyce Hernandez, Ross Hernandez Liao, and Carol Hernandez Hizon. Loving brother-in-law of Marivic Villajos. Fond uncle of Marawin Coloma, Ashley Coloma, and Darilyn Villajos. Fond friend of Connie Rapps, Virgilio Bautista, and many more.
Serafin was a real estate attorney in the Philippines before becoming a senior claims examiner at the Office of the Special Deputy (OSD Chicago) and retiring from OSD in 2004.
Serafin loved to spend time with his family – nothing fancy, just having a meal together, watching a game, or just talking. He was an avid Chicago sports fan. Win or lose, he rarely missed a Cubs, Bears, or Bulls Game. Serafin was an avid fan of the band ABBA. A longtime residence of LaGrange, IL. He and his family immigrated to the USA in 1976 and built a life here. He was a man of great faith and devotion. His faith strengthened him all his life.
Visitation 3 to 9pm Friday, October 13th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Family and friends will meet at St. Cletus Church, 600 W. 55th St., LaGrange for 10am Mass on Saturday, October 14th. Mass will be livestreamed at www.youtube.com/stcletusparish.
