David Harvey Harkness

David Harvey Harkness, 81, of Western Springs passed away Friday, November 10, 2023 at Mercy One Hospital in Clinton, Iowa. Born to Harvey and Hazel Harkness on April 22, 1942 in Savannah, IL, David touched the lives of everyone who knew him. We celebrate that David is in the presence of the Lord, while we grieve the massive hole he leaves behind. He was an amazing man who exuded the love and joy of Jesus.

As a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle, surviving him are his wife, Barbara Harkness of Western Springs; son, Timothy (Jonna) Harkness of Morton; two grandchildren, Megan (Mac) Holt and Elissa (Grant) Hodel; three great-grandsons, Everett, Oliver, and Valor. He was a loving brother to his four siblings; Sue (Don) Williams, Duane (Pat) Harkness, Sandy (Steve) Barnaby, and Doug (Wanda) Harkness. He was also a caring and compassionate uncle to his nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by, and now joyfully reunited with, his parents, Harvey and Hazel Harkness, as well as his daughter, Stephanie Harkness. David’s family will forever cherish the memories and impact he had on their lives.

David’s commitment to His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ guided him and his family through life. David attended Moody Bible Institute where he met his wife of 60 years, Barbara. Becoming father to two children, Timothy and Stephanie, David then worked as a teacher for a few years in the Chicago suburbs. He approached his work with integrity and passion. He then moved into working in insurance until retiring in 2008. In retirement, he continued to enjoy hunting with his family at their family farm in Hanover, IL, golfing with beloved friends, and serving as a faithful member and elder of La Grange Bible Church in La Grange, Illinois. Friends and family will both cherish and miss the integrity, kindness, humility, and joy that he brought to life.

The family invites you to honor David’s life through services at La Grange Bible Church, 850 7th Ave., La Grange. The visitation will be held on Friday, November 17th from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. The funeral service will be held at La Grange Bible Church on Saturday, November 18th at 11:00am. To view the livestream, please click here.
