His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
Joe was born on July 11, 1946, in Chicago, and he spent his formative years in Cicero, IL, graduating from Morton East High School in 1964. He went on to earn an associate in arts degree at Morton Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in business at Walton College of Commerce. In 1973, he became a police officer for the City of Countryside and later became a Vice President, Certified Trust and Financial Advisor at Northern Trust Bank. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
Joe was a beloved husband, father, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. More than anything, Joe was a devoted grandfather. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Capri, talking about history, sharing books, emailing comics, and traveling together. He was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement.
In his free time, Joe enjoyed traveling with his wife, photography, trap shooting, fishing, fly tying, and reading. He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

I will forever cherish the memories of Joe’s business trips to New Mexico. My mother,Novella Lineberry and stepfather, Edwin Lineberry, counted Joe among their dearest friends. Mom relied heavily on Joe after Ed passed and he was always available when she called. I also considered Joe a dear friend and loved his sense of humor! I don’t think I have laughed more with anyone than Joe. He will be missed. He spoke endlessly about his family, especially “the little one”. The world lost a magnificent light .
Top notch friend to many of us who always admired his sense of humor, gift of gab and warm personality. Totally impressed of his deep knowledge of Abraham Lincoln and American Civil War and history in general. Darn good 16″ softball player, too.
My husband Dave and I both met and knew Joe through working together at The Northern Trust Company. What a wonderful guy. We were always laughing with him about something. He was so kind. In retirement, we loved bumping into him at the Honey Bee Restaurant in Western Springs (where we lived) – we saw him more that way than we ever did at work – and we learned that he was everything mentioned about him in his obituary – a loving family man, a “have another cookie” kind of grandpa, a man who enjoyed traveling, and someone with great curiosity and respect for history. We only just learned of Joe’s death (we now live in Wisconsin) through a mutual friend. Condolences to the family, and peace to his memory.
