John “Jack” Maloy
John (Jack) Edward Maloy, age 76, of LaGrange, IL. Loving husband of Barbara Maloy née White. Devoted father of Sean (Sandy) and Patrick Maloy and caring former husband of Cathy Maloy. Dedicated grandfather of his beloved Kylie (John) McGarry and Abby Maloy. Thoughtful brother of Erin Horstman, the late Michael Maloy, Kimberly McLynn, and the late Beth Moon. Fond uncle of Jason, Michael, Meghan, Kate, Emily, Brendan, Matthew, Timothy, Matthew, Erik, Aiden, and Kelly. A friend, cousin, and in-law to many.
By his own admission, Jack had a good life. He was born in 1947 and grew up in “Deep Summit,” IL., with a solid network of siblings, cousins, and friends. He attended St. Joseph School in Summit, where he kept the nuns busy with his classroom antics, and later Argo High School, where he continued his notoriety.
At 56, he retired as a 36-year employee of Corn Products International in Bedford Park, IL. He then returned to school to obtain a Naturalist certificate and began his second career with DuPage County Forest Preserves as a seasonal worker at Fullersburg Woods in Oakbrook, IL.
He was mischievous, adventurous, and courageous.
He often shared his lifelong passion for exploring the great outdoors with relatives and friends; he amused everyone but shocked no one by getting a tattoo of his granddaughters’ favorite cartoon characters. Over the years, he elevated more than a few heart rates with both simple and elaborately devised pranks. There was never a dull moment when Jack was around, and stories of his exploits, achievements, and hijinks have and will fuel stories to be told repeatedly.
As rich as his life was, it became richer when his precious granddaughters, Kylie and Abby, were born. With intense love, he dedicated himself to being the best and coolest grandfather ever in the history of the world. They believe he exceeded this goal.
Visitation is Monday, January 22, from 3 pm to 9 pm, and services are on Tuesday, 10 am, at Hallowell & James, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Private interment.

Hello Barb, Jack and I went to St. Joseph’s school together and Argo high School. We connected as years went by. I remember you at corn products when I would come and inspect after our cleaning crew service master cleaned. I am so sorry for your loss and believe one day we Will all all be together again? Laughing, joking and pulling pranks like he was famous for. May God continue blessing you and your family always!

To Barb and all of Jack’s family, I am so sorry to learn of Jack’s passing. He was a great neighbor in our LaGrange condo community with always a friendly greeting and a helping hand. As fellow original owners, I had the good fortune to serve with Jack on our board. He brought good humor and a level head. More recently, he surprised and delighted me with his detailed knowledge of the birds in and around LaGrange and the forest preserves. He will be much missed.

Barb and family, I am so sorry to hear this. Jack was a great guy I loved waiting on all of you guys on Thursdays. I am not going to make the services, but wanted to know I am thinking of you all. He will definitely be missed.

I was lucky enough to know Jack for a number of years meeting him once a week with a bunch of guys who wanted nothing more than what is best for the other man. Jack was a gift and I am grateful to know him.
The memories of Jack’s kindness, generosity, and adventurous spirit will live on, continuing to inspire and bring joy to those who knew him.
My sympathies to the Maloy family. I’m one of Jack’s neighbors. I’ve known him for about 25 years. Jack was always ready to lend a hand if I needed help with something or if the HOA was looking for volunteers. I’ll miss his quick witt, humorous stories, and reliable friendship.

Sorry to hear this. Jack was a good friend, always fun to be around. In our early teens, I remember his distinct “cackle” of a laugh, that alone made me laugh. But as many old friends do, we drift away in different directions, different lives, different locations, and loose touch. I had no idea Jack was close to nature, not really surprising, he had a good heart. My condolences to his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Jack.
I was saddened to learn of Jack’s passing. But after thinking and praying about it, I felt better believing that our loss is Heaven’s gain. I don’t know if Jack was a religious man, but I do know that he was a spiritual man. He must have been to have overcome the adversities that he overcame in his life. Through his life, Jack taught us that we can become better than we are and that, in the process, we can make the lives of those around us better, too.
Jack and I shared some mischievous hstory together as kids and some disorderly times as young adults. We lost touch with each other over the years, but I always felt close to Jack and his family. I love you all, and you are all in my thoughts and prayers. I pray that you can take comfort in the thought that Jack has earned a promotion and that we can all earn one, too.

I knew him best from those days when his folks (my Uncle John and Aunt Lorraine) would spend weeks at the Maloy family cottage at Eagle Lake in Michigan, bringing Jack, Erin,
Mike, Kim and Beth…a wild and fun bunch! I consider myself blessed to have met and enjoyed all of my Maloy cousins during the more halcyon summer days of my youth. Jack has always played a standout role in those memories and always will. He will be greatly missed.
