Susan Michelle Miller, 69, a lifetime resident of La Grange, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 5. Sue leaves behind a family who adored her and more friends than can be counted. From the minute Sue came into this world, her light shined and lit up everyone she encountered. Sue was a social magnet who “never met a stranger.” Self-described as “short, funny and sassy,” she also was compassionate, kind, and mighty. Sue had an amazing sense of humor and a deep appreciation for all the family and friends who surrounded her. It was in her nature to give and care for others, especially her beloved mother Wilma. Sue loved dogs, worked at Boone Animal Hospital, ran her own dog-sitting business and often sat outside with treats that drew all the neighborhood dogs to her. She loved chocolate, a good story, a magic trick, a joke, little children, family, friends and her snappy red glasses. She overcame lots of physical challenges and befriended every doctor and pharmacist she ever met. The glass was always half full – even overflowing – in Sue’s eyes.
She was predeceased by her mother Wilma, brother John, sister Peggy, and nephew Kevin Becker. She is survived by her sisters Joan (Ken) and Julie (Ken), nieces Jennifer (Allie), Elizabeth, Stephanie (Scott), Sara (Ross), Adam (Nicole), John (Whitney), dear friend Anne Brandt and many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation 5-8 p.m., Thursday, May 9, Hallowell & James, 1025 W. 55th Street, Countryside. Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Avenue, La Grange. Donations may be made in Susan’s honor to Ehlers-Danlos Society or Trio Animal Foundation. Funeral info: 708-352-6500

I’m sure you already know that she loved you all so very much . She would share those feelings with me so very often. Sue you will be terribly missed because you were so loved by so many people! Walgreens won’t be the same with you ! Love you and I will see you on the other side 😘
It doesn’t feel real. Will miss your sassy jokes. Love you Aunt Sue
There are few words that can describe this mighty, small but powerful woman. I loved her so very much. I will think of her in one way or another every day. She left her mark on me. Her genuine love for all who had the privilege to meet her was authentic. There was a purity in her that anlways humbled me. And I could never get away with being anything other than myself. No frills around this girl. I always knew that if Susan Miller loved me, I was loved indeed. How fortunate I am to have known and loved this small but mighty woman.
Such a lovely, poignant testament of the life Suzie had and the impact on so many. I am certain It echoes the loss of so many friends and family. We are so proud to have known and loved her as our friend and neighbor. Our sympathy to her beloved family that took such wonderful care of her.
I will always miss Sue in future visits to Lagrange. The world will never be the same without her joy in it.
I will miss Sue forever, her smile, wit, her wicked sense of humor, our special times together, mostly shopping and looking for trouble together, the chocolate chip cookies she gave me at the end of our day together, but mostly just being with her. I can’t imagine not seeing her beautiful face again. I love you, Sue always, Karen
Wilma and Sue and then just Sue were a must- see when visiting from Seattle. They will be deeply missed.
I dont know how many school days Wilma got me out of classes but the three of us went to Cubbies games galore, sitting in their season tickets seats right behind the cubs dugout. Wilma got me Ernie Banks autograph which i still have today as well as a collection of little plastic batting helmets (much to my wife’s chagrin).
Deepest condolences…
Im sure they’ll be watching the Cubbies together this summer! Xoxo
Sue! I’ve known Sue and her beautiful family since the Sunset days. She was always fun, joking, loving, and in spite of her medical issues, upbeat and positive. I texted with her last Friday and we said our “ I love you’s”. She was tired and heading to bed. Hard to believe that was the last time we’d connect, and that her shining light towards all who knew and loved her, would come to an end. I trust she’s reunited with Wilma and laughing and joking with all around her, bringing joy to all in the cosmos.
Sue was the most upbeat ,happy person I knew! A shock to hear of her death. My prayers and loving thoughts go out to all of her family.
Our beloved Sue, you were the Queen of Lagrange and brought an easy joy with you wherever you went. You were always so beautifully curious about all things in life. I remember vividly you and your mom visiting us at Bob’s studio, sometimes bringing your cat for him to photograph and just enjoying talking about everything! You remain our town treasure and will always be loved. I’m deeply honored to have known you. Now you’re with your beautiful and sassy mom for Mother’s Day.
I met Sue at Gurrie Jr High in 1968 and then occasionally ran into her and her Mom at the Countryside Jewel She had a fabulous memory and always spoke as if we’d just seen each other in school She was a kind soul
