Doug Chesner, age 71, of Berwyn, passed away on May 11, 2024. Beloved father of Matthew and Timothy; father-in-law to Alexandra; loving brother of Donna; former spouse of Barbara Rose Chesner; cherished son of the late Donald and Dorothy “Betty” Chesner; fond friend of many.
Doug served as a nurse for over 30 years at the West Suburban and University of Illinois at Chicago hospitals. He had a deep love of music, especially folk and bluegrass. He cherished his time spent in nature; camping, hiking, canoeing, biking, and most importantly, fishing.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Illinois Conservation Foundation and the Trevor Project are greatly appreciated.
Funeral services will take place privately.
We have fond memories of Doug cheering on Tim at baseball games and wearing a wide smile when he watched Matt perform at Highlands band concerts. It was wonderful seeing him at the Tim and Alex’s wedding last year. He was blessed to be loved by so many.
The only addition I can add to the lovely obituary above is that “Chez”, as we called him in college, was always an avid reader. He had favorite authors of fiction but was more interested in non-fiction with an insatiable desire to further his knowledge of a myriad of interests. A true Gemini! He was a friend to many, and I wish him peace and to know that he is missed. .
Im a Old good friend of Doug’s and R.N. that used to work in ICU and ER for many years with him. We were friends as well outside of the hospital. Enjoy listening to the blues, riding motorcycles, and planting vegetable gardens in the moonlight together. I will miss him dearly. Love you buddy.
