Suzanne W. McKee

Suzanne W. McKee (nee Wedemeyer), 86 years young, longtime resident of River Forest, IL and more recently Hinsdale, IL passed away on August 9, 2024. Beloved wife of the late Harold E. McKee, Jr.  Loyal daughter of the late Hon. Ted E. and Catharine Wedemeyer Sr., sister of the late Hon. Ted E. Wedemeyer, Jr. (Susan) and Thomas M. Wedemeyer (LaVonne). She is survived by her children Harry (Kathy Jo), Ted (Kelly), Katie (Stan) Czerwien, Mary Pat (Gene) Sullivan and Ellen (J.P.) McFadden. “Fancy Nana” also is survived by her 17 grandchildren: Meaghan (Colin) Kirincich, Colleen, Dan (Maddie) and Kevin McKee; Ashley (Trent) Wright, Matt and Olivia McKee; Joe (Sarah), Maggie (Mike Shub), and Frank (Mary) Czerwien; Michael, Lizzy, Claire and Annie Sullivan; and Patrick (Katie), Michael and Caroline McFadden. She also has 8 great-grandchildren with more to certainly follow.

Sue loved gardening, swimming, ice skating, reading, dogs and, best of all, baking cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed attending the symphony and opera. She volunteered at Loyola University Medical Center and served on the Fenwick High School Board of Trustees. She happily and properly educated her children at St. Luke’s, Fenwick and Trinity, before sending them off to various institutions of higher education. She took great pride, joy, and satisfaction from the accomplishments of her parents and brothers, her husband, her children, sons and daughters-in-law, and her grandchildren.

Those who knew her will agree that she was an independent, proud, loyal, but always graceful wife, daughter, mother, sister and friend. Throughout her life and even in the later stages, she spoke her mind freely and without hesitation. She was called The Boss, Madam Chairman or simply, Sue, Mom or Nana. Sue was truly one of a kind and we will miss her terribly.

Visitation will commence at 10:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2024, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, both at St. Francis Xavier Parish, 124 N. Spring Ave., LaGrange, IL. Burial will be private. To view Sue’s Mass on the internet, please visit the St. Francis Xavier Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SFXParish.LG. A Facebook account is not needed to watch the Mass but the Church indicates that the CHROME browser should be used and not Internet Explorer or Safari.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her memory to either the “Harold McKee, Jr. ’55 Scholarship Fund”, c/o Fenwick High School, 505 W. Washington Blvd., Oak Park IL 60302 or to Misericordia, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago IL 60660.
