Robert Marshall M.D.

Robert Marshall M.D., age 81, of Burr Ridge, passed away peacefully on November 28th, 2024. Beloved husband of Susan; loving father of Michael (Colleen), Catherine, Emily, and Andrea; cherished grandfather of Adelaide & Henry Marshall; devoted brother of the late Shirley and the late Edward; fond uncle and friend of many.

Bob was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. He was a bright and ambitious student, scoring in the top 1% of eighth grade students in Ohio.  He received a full scholarship to Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire where he graduated Cum Laude.  He then attended Oberlin College in Ohio where he was invited to join Phi Beta Kappa, and finished in 3 years.  He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1968.  After completing one year of his Radiology residency, he enlisted in the army and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, first practicing general medicine and then radiology.  He then completed his residency in New York City.

Bob loved his work as a radiologist but also pursued his many other interests such as history,  stamp and coin collecting, and astronomy.  It was not unusual for him to go out in the middle of the night to observe astronomical occurrences such as planet alignments or a lunar eclipse. He enjoyed traveling and in his younger years was a skier.
Bob loved his children and especially delighted in being a grandfather.  He had a great sense of humor but also couldn’t resist a bad Dad Joke.  He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations to HCS Family Services is greatly appreciated.

  1. I didn’t know Dr. Marshall very long, I sure wish I had. We got along great and he had complimented my work as an ultrasound technologist many times. I will miss him.
My sincere condolences to his family for their loss.

  2. Dr Marshall was a Radiology consultant in Oak Forest hospital and Blue Island . Since the department was very small in numbers, the staff was very close and Dr Marshall was very easy to get along . He was jovial and enjoyed the jokes . He often ordered lunch for us and before he got hospitalized , he said “ let me know when you want to order “ …! Everything is now a memory! He was very hard working and took care of his family well ( as per his conversation ) . He enjoyed traveling and brought us chocolates when he comes back . HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED !!!!! RIP
