In Loving Memory of Margaret “Meg” Duranty
October 11, 1962 – December 15, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret “Meg” Duranty, a woman full of life, love, and kindness. She leaves behind a legacy of positivity and compassion that touched everyone she met.
Meg dedicated much of her life to helping others, beginning her career as a nurse before transitioning to her many roles at Nazareth Academy. There, she became a beloved presence, treating every student with warmth and respect, regardless of their circumstances. Her ability to uplift others and make everyone feel seen and valued left an indelible mark on the school and its community.
Beloved wife of Charles “Chuck” Duranty, she was the proud and devoted mother of four children: Brad, Kevin, Emily, and Brian and a cherished Nana to seven grandchildren— Quinn, Owen, Tommy, Will, Grace, Henry, and Cal. Her love extended to her children’s families, including Emily’s husband, John Grogan; Brad’s wife, Kelsey Duranty; and Kevin’s fiancée, Megan Dart.
Known for her infectious positivity and boundless energy, Meg had a rare gift for bringing joy to any moment. She was the heart of her family and a beacon of kindness in her community. Her vibrant personality, dedication to others, and unwavering love will be remembered forever.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 27th, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Alexine Chapel at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, December 28th, at 10:00 AM at Saint Francis Xavier Church in La Grange. Meg’s family invites all who would like to celebrate her life to join them for a luncheon at Premier Catering and Events of Countryside following the funeral services at 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to Nazareth Academy in support of adolescent mental health services.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and the countless lives she touched. She was a shining light in this world and will be deeply missed.
I am so sorry for your loss. Meg was a special person. She will be missed by many.
I met Meg at Excelsior in Sarasota, Florida. From the first day of meeting her she made such a positive and friendly impression. Always always a smile . I will certainly miss that smile and friend. My deepest sympathy goes out to Chuck and family.
She’s in the loving hands of God now, feeling the joy she brought to others.
God bless the Duranty Family
I’m so sorry for your loss.
My heart goes out to you and your family, Chuck, in this very difficult time. Certainly, she’ll be welcomed with open arms at the pearly gates.
I went to school with Meg at both Saint Francis and Nazareth. She was vibrant, smart, friendly, kind, and a wonderful athlete. My deepest sympathies to both the Malek and Duranty families.
I had the great good fortune of going to SFX with Meg. She was a “boulder amongst rocks” in so many ways! Big-hearted, thoughtful, and a stand-out and unselfish athlete. A beautiful soul inside and out who is gone too early. Blessings, Molly Shannon McGowan
Dear Chuck and the entire Duranty family, I haven’t seen you all for years, but my memories of Meg are that she was a very kind soul, always wearing a smile, and so nice! My heartfelt condolences to all of you. Find, gather, and hold strength from each other. Keep her spirit and love within you. Blessings, Caroline Murphy Watt, New Mexico

Praying for Meg Duranty today and her family. She was former neighbor who lived cross the street for us. Such a warm wonderful beautiful person who will be forever missed! Always had something sincere to say about you and always lifted you up. She will never be forgotten.
There are no words I can say to help your family get through this difficult time.
I was not close with Meg.
But She was Always a friendly face to me.
when we did see each other we would always sit down to chat.
Our kids , family went to SFX together
We would talk about how are kids are doing and how many grandkids we have now.
We would both laugh that we are grandparents.
Then agree grandkids bring so much love and joy into our lives.
She spoke so proudly of her family .
After speaking with her , I always walked
away with a smile.
She is and always will be a bright light.

Chuck and family, we are oh so very very sorry to learn of Meg’s passing. When I think way back to parties at the Malec house on Kensington, it’s easy to remember the light that always shone in Meg. We’ll lite a candle for her and both the Durante & the Malec families. God bless.
